Policy:Privacy
Storage of data
When reading ShadowrunWiki websites, no more data is recorded than usual in server log files. Any word publicly contributed to any of the ShadowrunWiki pages is considered published. If you write something, keep in mind that it will be kept forever. This applies to articles, user pages and talk pages.
Publication of data
When editing pages on the wiki, your username or, if you are not logged in, your IP address will be recorded and published with your post. You can choose your real name or a pseudonym as your username when creating your account.

User Accounts
You can specify an email address in your user settings. Registered users can send you e-mails via the wiki software. Your email address will not be published unless you decide to reply to an email or the email is returned to the sender due to an invalid email address. The email address can be used by the ShadowrunWiki admins to communicate with users on a larger scale.
You can change or remove your email address from the settings at any time to prevent use. If an email address is not provided, it will not be possible to send you a new password in case you have forgotten your old one. The user profile can then no longer be used.
User behavior, such as the last processing times, the number of edits and also the content of each individual edit, can be viewed publicly by anyone via the "User contributions" function and can be published in aggregated form by other users.
Many aspects of community interactions on ShadowrunWiki pages are based on reputation and respect that have grown over the course of working on the ShadowrunWiki articles. Passwords are the only guarantee to ensure the integrity of a user's edit history. All users should choose strong passwords and not share them with anyone. No one shall knowingly publish another user's password, whether directly or indirectly.
Cookies
The MediaWiki software sets a temporary session cookie each time you visit a page, which is deleted when you close your browser. You can refuse this cookie, but you will not be able to log in.
Additional cookies can be set when you log in to automatically pass your username and/or password the next time you visit. These cookies are valid for up to 30 days.
Log files
Whenever you visit a website, your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox or Opera) sends information to the server. Most servers store these to give site operators a picture of popular sites (which pages are accessed frequently, which websites the user came from, or which browser the user used). Wikimedia has no intention of using this information to monitor users.
The log files are used to generate general statistics. This raw data will not be published.
This is what calling up a page in the log file can look like:
172.18.0.3 - - [08/Jul/2024:02:29:42 +0000] "POST /w/api.php HTTP/1.1" 200 32 "https://www.shadowrunwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Policy:Privacy&veaction=edit" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/126.0.0.0 Safari/537.36"
This data can be evaluated by the server administrators, for example in the event of technical problems when web crawlers overuse the servers, or in rare cases to assign the user name and IP address of users who abuse the ShadowrunWiki.
Disclosure of data to third parties
Text published on ShadowrunWiki pages can be used elsewhere under the terms of the GFDL.
ShadowrunWiki will not sell or otherwise disclose private information, such as e-mail addresses, to third parties unless you consent to this or it is required by law.
Policy for the release of data generated from the log files
Personal data from log files will only be released by ShadowrunWiki in the following cases:
- in response to a court order or other mandatory law enforcement order
- the affected user agrees to the release
- if a user has defaced articles (see also the section on vandalism on Wikipedia etc.) or always behaves in a disruptive manner, we may release their data to block them or complain to their ISP
- if the information concerns an automatic data collector and is needed to solve or illustrate a technical problem
- as necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of the ShadowrunWiki or its users.
Data integrity
ShadowrunWiki does not guarantee against unauthorized access to information provided by you. This information is accessible to all admins with access to the server.
Deletion of data
Once user accounts have been created, they cannot be deleted.
Deleted articles and article versions can usually still be viewed by project administrators. A permanent deletion is only possible for server administrators and cannot be guaranteed - except in legally necessary cases.
